So far, two tournaments in to all-stars, both our 8U and 10U teams are playing .500 ball. That’s above average under normal circumstances, but it doesn’t win tournaments. It’s okay though… we are proud of our girls!!!
This evening we adjourned practice with a pizza dinner for all players and their families. We also rallied in the parking lot and painted our windows in preparation of the upcoming Surf City Classic Softball Tournament in Huntington Beach this weekend.

Once again, we would like to acknowledge and congratulate our entire league on an amazing season. We acknowledge everyone’s outstanding efforts and accomplishments and look forward to how we can best represent, promote, and grow our family.
Part of that comes with post-season all-star play. Our coaches and managers have gone through the difficult process and done their best to assemble a group of girls to help represent us. While we would love to include everyone, both budgets and rules put a limit on us.
However our team doesn’t only exist on the field, MMGSoftball is tight-knit family. We live in the community. We hope that you will join us in celebrating and supporting our all-star teams at a fundraiser on Thursday May 19, 2016 at Legacy Brewing Tap & Kitchen from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
Simply come by and let your server/bartender know you are with Mira Mesa Girls Softball and 20% of your bill will be generously donated to our league.
Although it’s not required, we would really like to see some participation and have everyone wear their Mira Mesa Girls Softball uniforms and related gear and snap a picture with your server, or the bartender, or the manager on site. Tryouts for all-stars are this week.
If your child is interested, please have your child arrive at the specified time on their designated evaluation day. Make sure they wear athletic practice apparel, NO JEANS OR SHORTS. In addition, players must have their helmets, gloves and bats with them. If they play catcher and have their own gear, please have them bring it as well or a set will be available if needed.
We hope to keep the evaluations quick and smooth so please be on time to ensure this can happen. Check-in for tryouts is at 4:30pm with tryouts running from 5pm-7pm at Hourglass Park, Field 5. Each division’s tryouts are on the following dates:

Please note that with several players trying out for a limited number of positions, our managers and coaches have very tough decisions on their plates. Not everyone can make it. Make sure to talk with your children and ensure them that if they are not selected, there is no reason to get discouraged. It should serve as a motivation to try harder for next season.
Once the draft has been completed an email will be sent out to all players notifying them of their all-star status.

Speed To Enhance Performance Academy (STEP Academy) is the premier speed, agility, and conditioning instructional training program in greater San Diego County.
As one of our sponsors, they are offering an amazing deal of $5.00 per participant for this clinic to the girls of Mira Mesa Girls Softball. Be aware, this is a fraction of what they normally charge for clinics at this level.
Although the instructors at STEP Academy are professionally certified to work with athletes of all ages and levels, keep in mind this is an intense clinic that will push the limits of your child’s ability and discretion should be used if considering this clinic for T-Ball and 8U players.

Picture Day is this Sunday March 13, 2016 at Hourglass Park.
All players should arrive in full uniform for team and individual shots. Individual shots can include a glove, bat, or other gear so bring them with you as well.

Tickets for San Diego Padres Softball Night on Saturday April 16th versus the Diamondbacks are now available for purchase. Tickets are $17.00 each for attendees ages 3 & older. Children under 2 years of age are free, however, they must sit on an adult’s lap. We will be sitting in the Right Field Lower Reserved Section 135 (visit the Padres online for seat details).
For those unfamiliar with this event, softball players will have the opportunity to walk on the field at Petco Park with their team and coaches (limit 2 coaches per team) prior to the game that night. Your child will represent MMGS by wearing their jersey, visor and/or headband. No cleats are allowed on the field only tennis shoes.
Tickets are only available for purchase through 04/01/16 and will be available for distribution starting 04/09/16. To purchase tickets, contact league treasurer, Jenise, via email. Please provide the following information for your purchase:

STEP Academy
The day started at 10:00am with our “Dynamic Warm-up and Stretching” clinic hosted by the amazing coaches over at STEP Academy. Coaches Rod and Brian instructed our MMGSoftball participants on various warm-up drills to work on in the interests of getting ready to play and prevent injury on the field. The workout lasted at least 75 minutes and we are EXTREMELY PROUD that every single one of our girls made it through with no complaints! They gave total effort and got an excellent workout that they can continue to use in the future and share with their teammates.

What’s follows a great workout? A good meal, of course. We are thankful to Legacy Brewing Tap & Kitchen for hosting an ALL DAY fundraiser for Mira Mesa Girls Softball. Their only requirement was for families to come in and tell their server they were with Mira Mesa Girls Softball and a portion of every one of those bills was donated to MMGSoftball. The food is excellent for the family and they have a great selection of craft brews for the parents. Make sure to visit this wonderful establishment frequently for their exciting gourmet menu items and to thank them for supporting our kids!
